Representation of Women (ROW) Lab

ROW managers updated
The Representation of Women (ROW) Lab advances research into the causes and consequences of women’s representation, with a particular focus on the factors that encourage and discourage American women from entering politics. Among other projects, the lab fielded the Civically and Politically Engaged Survey (CAPES) in Spring 2025. CAPES is a comprehensive poll of politically- and civically-engaged people, those most likely to seek and hold elected and appointed office in the United States. The first results will be reported in Gender and Local Political Ambition, a manuscript under contract with the Cambridge University Press Elements Series.

The ROW lab brings together scholars in the Departments of Political Science and Economics to share insights and tools, identify key hypotheses, support research programs, and develop a unique tool for the study of political ambition and representation in the U.S. It is jointly managed by Christina Wolbrecht and Lakshmi Iyer.
